Since 1982, the Firehouse Shelter has served individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the Birmingham area by providing emergency shelter, meals, clothing, and social services.

For more than eight years, Faith UMC has been blessed to partner with the Firehouse Shelter. Each quarter, members of our church come together to prepare and serve a hot meal to approximately 45–75 guests. Volunteers of all ages serve side by side, from our junior high youth to members in their 70s.

But this ministry is about more than providing a meal. It is an opportunity to sit together, share conversations, hear stories, and build meaningful connections. Those who volunteer often discover that they receive just as much from the experience as those they come to serve.
